Tuluveshwara Temple is located 9 kilometres from Kundapura in the Kundapur taluk of the Udupi district. This town was previously known as Vasupura, since Emperor Vasu governed this region. This town was once an important business centre in the Udupi district. This Tuluveshwara temple is just one of the several ruins in Basrur.

By Air: Magalore Airport (IXE) is the nearest airport which is around 100km. One can book a taxi or can come by bus to Kundapura.
By Train: Kundapura Railway Station (KUDA) is just 4 km away from Basrur. Autos are available from the station to the destination.
By Road: There are frequent buses running from Kundapura to Basrur or one can even travel by private vehicle.
History of Tuluveshwara:
This God, known as the original God of Tulunad, is extremely powerful and is claimed to grant the wishes of followers. This temple is located in Basrur, right in front of the Shanteri Kamakshi temple. The temple is about 1000 years old and lacks any form of stone wall or shelter. It is said that a banyan tree is providing shelter to the Shiva lingam from last 250 years.

This Tuluveshwara is surrounded by rich vegetation and is shielded by a 250-year-old banyan tree from rain, wind, and sun coming from all four directions. This deity’s womb temple is located amidst the surrounding banyan trees. Only one person can pass through the tree and into the Garbha Gudi. An idol of Nandi made out of stone is directly in front of it. Even if there is a large banyan tree nearby, it might be argued that it is a miracle of God that Lingam remains unharmed.
A 2 1/2-foot-long lingam with a statue of Nandi in front of it may be found in the sanctum sanctorum. The only thing visible from the sanctum sanctorum is Nandi’s head. Even though this lingam has been idolised for thousands of years, it is still stunning. It is evident that an effort was made to destroy the Nandi Peetha with an iron bar from the outside in order to recover riches. It is possible to see Nandi’s idol swaying slightly.
The Vithal Kini family has been doing daily pujas to the deity for a very long period. Mahesh Kini now conducts the puja each day. During Shivratri, special pujas are performed here. No matter how many efforts are made for the restoration of this place, God’s approval is still not received. The worshiping priest says that he got the answer that this temple will be renovated through a Yogi.
Even though this temple has been in the middle of the environment for centuries, it is special here that it has been protecting the devotees and believers.
