Kodi beach is a lovely stretch of golden sand beach near Kundapura in Karnataka’s Udupi district. It is a popular tourist and local destination for those who want to enjoy the sun, beach, and sea. The beach has become even more attractive because of the Delta Point, where the Pancha Gangavali River meets the Arabian Sea.
How to reach Kodi Beach?
Location: Kodi Delta Point, Kodi End Point, Kundapura, Udupi District, Karnataka
This Beach is around 5 kilometres away from Kundapura. Buses run every 30 minutes from Kundapura to Kodi, and one can also travel by Auto Rickshaw. You can, however, use the following option to go to Kodi.
Via Air: The closest airport near Kodi is Mangalore (IXE), which is around 95 kilometres away. When landing at the airport, one can take a taxi or take a bus to Kundapura and then to Kodi.
Via Train: The nearest railway station is Kundapura Railway Station, which is around 10 kilometres away. The majority of Konkan Railway trains stop at Kundapura Station.
Via Road: Roads connect Kundapura and Kodi Beach to nearby districts such as Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada. Kundapura is located on NH 66, a four-lane highway. Therefore getting to Kodi by car will be no problem.
Panchagangavali Delta Point – Confluence of 5 rivers!
Near the Delta Points, one or two rivers usually join the sea. But at Kodi Beach’s Delta Point, not one, not two, but five rivers merge. Souparnika, Chakra, Kubja, Varahi, and Kedaga are the rivers. Hence it is called Panchagangavali Delta point. Standing on the sea walk, one can view these five rivers joining the Arabian Sea.
Two Parallel Sea walks
Two sea walks have been built for the benefit of the public. These two sea walks run parallel to each other, which is a sight to behold. One sea walk can be reached from Kodi, while the other can be reached from Gangolli.
Several people come to this sea walk at sunrise to practice yoga, exercise and conduct other activities. They also go jogging and walking to observe the sunset in the evening. During weekends, sea walks are extremely crowded. Overall, these sea walks have become a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
An ancient lighthouse
Another attraction at this location is an ancient lighthouse. The lighthouse is only a kilometre distant and is readily visible from the sea walk. Visitors are able to climb to the top of the lighthouse and gaze out over the magnificent scenery and the sea.
There is a specific time to climb up on the lighthouse. Every day from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, visitors are permitted to go to the top. Adults pay a small admission fee of ₹10 (10 INR). If you want to bring your camera and film videos or snap pictures from the top, you will be charged an additional price of ₹25 (25INR).
A typical destination for water sports and adventure
Kodi Beach has grown in popularity as a water sports and adventure destination in last 10 years. Boating and kayaking are popular activities. Locals carry you by boat to small islands where you can see dolphins. If you want to take a boat ride, you can contact BRAHMOS Boating.
There is also a small park for children with swings and see saws. Dirt bikes are also available for a ride on the beach shore. There are also numerous restaurants and food vendors selling delectable foods and beverages. Overall, this beach is an excellent choice for beachgoers.
The nearby attractions include Aanegudde Shri Vinayaka Temple, Kollur Mookambika Temple, Maravanthe Beach etc.
